THE COLLABORATION & INSPIRATION:
The Wave Rider β dyed by Buaisou is the result of a unique collaboration rooted in the deep connection and aligned principles of Mizuno and Buaisou. Both brands share a significant affinity with the colour blue: one, choosing it as its signature hue, and the other, standing as a renowned Japanese indigo dyeing and farming studio. Tradition is highly important to both, with Mizuno placing it as one of its core values and Buaisou upholding traditional indigo dyeing methods.
THE SHOES:
Each fabric of the shoes is meticulously hand-dyed and assembled by skilled artisans, ensuring each sneaker is unique. The base material, dyed with a mold made specifically for this pack, sets the stage for various indigo dyeing techniques. On the medial side, the “Shibori-zome” method is employed, creating unique tie-dye patterns. The remaining upper showcases a distinct pattern created with the “Bassen" technique, perfect for making small logos and intricate designs. The “Katajime” technique, where plastic boards are used to compress the fabric and create dye-resistant areas, is used to bring out the Runbird logo. Plane dyed labels on the tongue and insole display both brand’s names, as symbols of the collaboration.
The shoelaces are made of hemp, and pigskin is used on the collar and insole, and the tongue label and branded insole are designed based on the image of both hemp and pigskin.
