Our company

made for sport,
designed for life

Rihachi Mizuno opened his first store in 1906 to share his passion for sports through the gear he and a small team of craftsmen proudly made in Japan. Driven by an uncompromising focus on athletic performance and aware that getting small product design details right could make a big difference on the field, every generation of Mizuno products since then has combined meticulous craftsmanship with restless innovation. Today our Mizuno Sports Style collection extends this legacy of innovation by combining time-honored heritage with a modern sense of style for items that fit your life, the way you want to live it.

When talking about MIZUNO shoes, the 1980s and 90s are periods that were so pivotal that they cannot be left out as topics. It was a time when it became known as the brand for pure athletes and the RUNBIRD, now part of our company logo, was born. And as the spirit spread around the world, theprevious M-LINE shoe logo were transformed into "RUNBIRD". Part of the global product strategy at the time, the RUNBIRD brand started from development of a shoe line that would be indispensable for any competition. Its true powers were realized when, in the blink of an eye, the world's top athletes in baseball, tennis, soccer, running and more, began wearing them, allowing RUNBIRD to be part of a great number of records and victories. The MIZUNO1906 collection, will introduce new models inspired by the Mizuno shoes of that era.

Developed under the theme of “SAFETY RUNBIRD,” this shoe was equipped with an impact-absorbing sorbothane sole. Appearing at a time when injuries including those from heel striking was a big problem, this shoe sought to increase safety and protection for the foot. This top-class model made use of the Magical Cloth midsole, the basis of the now renowned Mizuno Wave, designed to prevent the ankle from injuries from things like rolling inward (over pronation), and contributed to safe, stable running.

Racing spikes for 100 m and 200 m sprints created with the top athlete who set the bar for the men’s 100 m world record in 1991. Mizuno’s race to be the fastest in the world began in 1988 with these shoes. The development theme at the time in 1988 was “Real Performance.” With incredible flexibility that you can even bend and bare-foot lightness, the RACING STAR 100 was born from the desire to create a shoe which gave the sensation generated from its performance to the runner, and developed in close and deep discussion with that top athlete. It was also a model with 462 spike layouts that could be adjusted to match the athlete’s foot shape and ground contact sensation—a world first at the time.
